Comparing different search methods for the open access journal recommendation tool B!SON

Abstract Finding a suitable open access journal to publish academic work is complex task: Researchers have navigate constantly growing number of journals, institutional agreements with publishers, funders’ conditions and the risk predatory publishers. To help these challenges, we introduce web-based recommendation system called B!SON. A systematic requirements analysis was conducted in form survey. The developed tool suggests journals based on title, abstract references provided by user. recommendations are built data, publisher-independent across domains languages. Transparency its source nature, an application programming interface (API) specifying which matches shown on. quality has been evaluated using two different evaluation techniques, including several new methods. We were able improve results from our previous paper pre-trained transformer model. beta version received positive feedback community test sessions. for researchers find journal. extensively tested, found possible improvements current technique. Development German libraries ensures longevity sustainability system.

Open-access journals, which provide access to their scholarly articles freely and without limitations, are at a systematic disadvantage relative to traditional closed-access journal publishing and its subscription-based business model. A simple, cost-effective remedy to this inequity could put open-access publishing on a path to become a sustainable, efficient system.
